Daring Dave’s adventures in the lands of Egypt are the main theme in this game, a 5 reel slot machine from Playtech that has 20 lines. This is an Indiana Jones like character, which you will find in the intro movie to be quite the hero, escaping the various traps of the pyramids and ending up at the Eye of Ra artifact and the treasures that surround it. From walls that are closing in on him, to traps and holes that he has to jump over, Daring Dave does it all right, just like Indiana Jones would. You get to advance through the various levels of the game, while taking advantage of bonus games, expanding wilds and scatters.

Graphics & Theme

There isn’t much of a focused design here, the slot’s reels being rather bland and disappointing, but there are some symbols that are theme related and you can see the Egyptian desert and the pyramids at the top of the screen. The theme focuses on a daring explored, called Dave, which seems to mimic the look of Indiana Jones. He even wears the same type of hat as Indiana Jones. The majority of the game’s symbols are the explorer, pyramids, Eye of Ra, the scarab and the various gods of the Egyptian mythology. Though the overall look is not that great, if you take a closer look at its symbols you will find that they are very well made, with a lot more attention put into them than the rest of the game received.

Special Effects

Daring Dave is the game’s main symbol, used in the role of the wild and also offering the top jackpot, worth 5000x the line bet. Giving the player up to $250,000 cash when five wilds are on a line, this symbol can also help the player get other combinations formed. When it appears on the middle three reels, the wild expands and covers them entirely. The 1st and 5th reels get only the regular wild version.

The scatter symbol is a bit more basic than we’re used to, showing us the Eye of Ra symbol and giving payouts, but no free spins. Two to five scatter symbols will award prizes worth between 1x and 125x the wager.

The bonus round is going to be triggered by the pyramid symbol showing up on both the 1st and 5th reels. It’s a quest where Dave goes searching for the Eye of Ra, with three different levels that he has to advance through. During each level, the player gets prizes. If the player goes all the way to the third level and locates the Eye of Ra, the top payout is worth 75x the bet.

Overall

Daring Dave has a lot to offer if you manage to ignore the graphics aspect and the dated design. It does things well in every other way, plus its main character is inspired from Indiana Jones, so there is a lot to like about him.
