Esmeralda is a 5 reel slot, with 25 lines, that seems to be Playtech’s response to the Desperado movie. They’re made sure that there is every element they could think off, connecting this slot to the Spanish/Mexican culture and to their music. A carpet of red roses is placed at the top of the game’s reels, with red velvet curtains on both sides. The progressive jackpot found inside should be a good enough reason to play this game, but on top of that you will also find the wild symbols, lots of free games and scatters.
Graphics & Theme
As I’ve mentioned above, the focus of the game is really on the Spanish culture and on music in particular. Though the focus is obviously on Esmeralda and on her own dancing and instruments, there is also a male character in there that resembles Antonio Banderas perfectly, the mariachi from the movie Desperados. You will also notice his guitar as one of the other symbols, plus another male character, a necklace, earrings, red roses and the usual playing cards. Overall, the design uses a bit too much red for my taste, but it’s no denying that this is a good looking slot.
The progressive jackpot is the game’s biggest attraction and you can play for it if you’re using a bet on all the paylines, with a total value that is either at $2, $5, $10 or $25. Each of those four types of bets will result in a different progressive jackpot value, the bigger the bet the larger the prize. Five Esmeralda symbols on a payline are required for this prize to be awarded.
Esmeralda is also the wild symbol of the slot, so its appearance tends to be good news for the player, even if there is only one symbol present. Get at least three of them on a payline though, and you will notice that you’re getting paid and very well. Payouts go up to 15,000 coins, or as much as $15,000 cash. If the wild appears during the free spins, it can substitute for all the symbols that are present, even the scatters.
Speaking of the scatter symbol, represented here by the red rose, it’s a bit more unusual than in other games. Instead of getting a maximum of five scatter symbols on the screen, you can get as many as 15 here, occupying all the positions available on the 5 reels. Payouts start from 5 scatter symbols and they go up from there. Free spins require a minimum of 8 scatter symbols, with the maximum being at 15 scatters. Up to 70 free spins are won this way, a huge number that could prove incredibly profitable.
The game has plenty to offer its players, so you can be sure that you’re going to have fun with it. Its features are the biggest advantage it has, with the chance of winning up to 70 free spins being a huge motivator.
