Highway Kings is the first game from Playtech with this name, a Pro edition also being designed later on. This is a game with 5 reels and with a theme that focuses on the life of truck drivers. Both trucks visible at the top of this 9 payline game have flames painted on them, which makes them look slightly cooler, but despite of it all the design looks dated. It’s not the kind of game that will make you play it just because it looks cool, plus you will find that the only features offered are a wild and a scatter symbol.

Graphics & Theme

The theme of the game is based on trucks, their drivers and on the various things connected to this world, in one way or another. That means that you might get spark plugs as symbols, lucky dice, tires, trucks, gas pumps and so on. The design style belongs about a decade into the past, as it’s nowhere close to the kind of drawing style and level of quality we’re used to these days. Despite the design style that’s not attractive enough, the game is cleanly designed, has various shades of blue used in the background and on the reels, with symbols being yellow, green and red trucks, wheels, tires, gas pumps, car lights, red dice, spark plugs, gasoline recipients and mufflers.

Special Effects

The wild symbol is used here only as a feature that will help the player get additional combinations formed. Even though the wild is a red truck, it looks like there is a second truck of this color that awards the top jackpot. It’s a typical wild symbol, which substitutes for others and doesn’t offer anything extra.

The scatter symbol’s role is that of an icon which can appear in any position in the game, always offering payouts when there are at least two of them. It starts with a 1x payout for 2 scatters, then we get 5x for 3 scatters, 10x for 4 scatters and 100x the total bet for 5 scatters.

The red truck symbol that awards the jackpot will give payouts even if a single symbol of this type appears. Five other symbols will award payouts for as few as two symbols on a line, with another four symbols requiring at least three to be present.

Overall

This is the kind of game you will enjoy playing if you have some sort of connection to the trucking world, either professional or as a fan of the freedom it represents for many. It’s not going to appeal to you otherwise though, not with the poor graphics and the few features that exist inside.
